Advantages and Disadvantages of spiral model

Advantages of spiral model:
1.     Project risks can be easily identified at the initial stages at low costs.
2.     Prototypes for the system can be developed, it allow user to view the prototype at an early stage.
3.     This software development model is suitable for high-risk projects.
4.     It is flexible. So, new functions and features can be easily added to the existing system.
5.     It is also suitable for large projects.
6.     Customer can see the development of the project and able to modify or add some new features into the existing system, thus customer is satisfied.

Disadvantages of spiral model:
1.     The spiral model is costly, as it needs high cost to be applied.
2.     This is suitable for the large projects, but for smaller projects, it is not suitable.
3.     The projects with clear Software Requirements Specification will find this approach complicated and if the SRS is clearly defined why someone need a complicated approach.
4.     The development process does not meet minimum budget and thus it is not suitable for budget projects.
As the number of phases are included in spiral model, so it takes too much time to complete development of the correct system.
